An Autoresponder is actually a message (usually more of them) that get sent to the specific subscribers at specific times, or due to a specific action they take. In reality, it commonly means a software that takes care of our email marketing, allows us to send broadcasts and collect subscribers. As such, they’re a basic ingredient everyone needs in order to do any kind of email marketing. Among the big commercial solutions, there is also a great tool named MyMailIt autoresponder.
Popular Autoresponders
There are a lot of these out there – Aweber, Sendlane, GetResponse, Mailchimp, to name just a few. They all have their specifics, they all have advantages and weaknesses, but certain things they have in common:
- they usually do not allow importing just about any kind of subscribers list
- they take care of you not doing something illegal
- they cost a monthly fee, which depends on a monthly volume of messages and the number of subscribers
If you try to violate just about any rule above (and there are more…), you’ll get kicked and your account blocked. Your list, which is after all your own property, stays lost. You can actually lose a business this way, in a blink of an eye.
Email deliverability
Email deliverability (i.e. how many of your email actually get delivered to your subscribers) is getting lower and lower by the day. One of the reasons is a huge number of filters these commercial autoresponders impose on your messages. It’s understandable if you think of it, it’s their business and they have to protect it. And they protect it by limiting you and me, their customers who use their services to make a living online.
Importing your own lists
Every autoresponder out there allows you to import your list from a csv file. But do they really?
During these imports, your data goes through a number of filters; the end result is usually thet out of (for instance) 10,000 addresses you have collected only 7,000 or so get imported. What happened to the remaining 3,000 is that some import algorithm decided they are not valid for any reason. This way, no matter how you acquiered the addresses, 30% of them just got lost for you (numbers are fictious, but you get the picture, I hope).
Autoresponder monthly fees
Each of the autoresponders have their unique pricelists, usually based on the number of subscribers you have and optionally on the number of emails you can send monthly. These are very different, but for 500 subscribers you will usually pay between 15$ and 25$ per month. Now 500 subscribers is not a lot, believe me – you’ll want to have a whole lot more. So when we get to 10,000+ subscribers, the cost is already 150$ and more. Per month.
So not a joke, a lot of your hard enarned money goes to these services.
Is there a better way?
Yes, of course there is.

And later, when you have a million dollar business, you can still switch to one of the big ones and easily pay 2k monthly fees. No problem.
